Previous research by Devane (2006a) showed that many students were unaware they would lose marks for poor referencing. Further research by Devane (2006b, 2006c) found that students who referenced correctly achieved overall higher assignment grades. Highlighting the issue again, Devane (2006d) stated that learning to use the referencing software EndNote would benefit students greatly.
